About Cropper, KY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Cropper is an unincorporated community located in northeast section of Shelby County, Kentucky. The community was once known as Croppers Depot. The community derives its name from James Cropper who was a blacksmith and storekeeper that founded the community in the 1790s. James Cropper also served as the community’s postmaster. The majority of Cropper’s residents were settlers from the Low Dutch colony. The community continued to grow as more settlers moved into the area and also when the Louisville & Nashville Railroad built a depot in the community. Cropper had an estimated population of 205 people in 2010.

Cropper is surrounded by beautiful landscape. Individuals who enjoy the outdoors and beautiful scenery will find interest in Cropper. The community is located about 20 miles north of Frankfort, Kentucky, a beautiful city offering many exciting and fun activities. The city of Frankfort is surrounded by many city parks and also the Kentucky River runs through the city. Also located in Frankfort is the Buffalo Trace Distillery. The distillery offers guided tours and much more.

Cropper has weather that varies greatly throughout the changing seasons. Winter in the community is characterized by cool temperatures and snow. The months of December, January, and February has daytime temperatures that average in the low and mid-40s. The months of January tends to the greatest amount of snow, with an average of over 4 inches a year. Residents will find it wise to invest in an efficient heating system to remain comfortable indoors during the cooler months of the year.

Summer in Cropper tends to be warm and humid. Temperatures during the warmer months of the year vary from the upper-80s and lower-90s. Rain is also very warm during the months of summer in Cropper. Residents should invest a cooling system that is capable of withstanding plenty of use throughout the year.
