Frankfort is located in the northern portion of Kentucky and serves as the county seat of Franklin County. Frankfort also serves as the capital of Kentucky. The city has a population of 25,527 people according to the 2010 census and is the fifth-smallest state capital in the United States. Located along the Kentucky River, the city was founded in 1786 whenever James Wilkinson purchased a 260-acre tract of land that later developed as downtown Frankfort.

Frankfort has many things to offer within its city limits. The city is home to many major bourbon distilleries, including Buffalo Trace Distillery. There are three churches located in the city’s historic district which are the Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church, organized in 1835, Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, built in 1850, and First Baptist Church, organized in 1833. The Josephine Sculpture Park offers community arts education. Also located in Frankfort are many city parks that offer residents and visitors beautiful recreational opportunities.

Frankfort experiences weather of all kinds throughout the seasons. Summers in the city tend to be warm and humid. Average daytime temperatures during the months of June, July, and August vary from the mid to upper-80s. Winters in the area are generally cold and see plenty of snowfall. Daytime temperatures during this time of year tend to remain in the mid-40s. The months of December, January, and February have average snowfalls that range from 1 inch to 4 inches.
