Located in the northern portion of Kentucky, Smithfield is a small city situated in Henry County. According to the 2000 United States Census, the city has a population of 102 people. The city lies about 17 miles from the Kentucky and Indiana state lines. The city has a total area of 0.1 square miles. Smithfield was founded when the Louisville & Cincinnati Railroad established a train station in the city named Smithfield. Since 1851, a post office has operated in the city.

There are many things to see and do that are located inside Smithfield and also within a short distance of the city. Veering Creek Farm is a 90-acre hops yard located in Smithfield. Currently growing over 5,000 hops plants, the farm is the largest hops yard in the state of Kentucky. The farm also contains a vineyard with over 1,200 grape vines. Located not far from Smithfield is the city of Louisville. The city of about 250,000 people offers many exciting activities within a short distance for individuals living in Smithfield.
